We are Home...Safe and Sound!

Well, it was a long morning, but all went well! I got up at 3:30 am to feed him since that was the latest possible time he could eat. He sleeps all night normally, but I figured he would need it to make it through the morning. We got to the hospital at 6am for check in and they took Nathan around 7:30 for the surgery.

A few pics of his baby hospital gown-it was hilarious!



He fell asleep right after we dressed him. This is us in the consulting room when Dr. Meltzer and the anesthesiologist came and met with us about the surgery.

From here, they took him away to start putting him to sleep-they use a tiny little mask with flavored gas. (like bubblegum or cherry :)) After he is asleep they inserted the IV into his hand. In retrospect, I should have told them to make sure and use his right hand, but it has not hindered his thumb sucking so far even though they used the left hand.

We went down and had breakfast in the cafeteria to pass the time and they called us in at 8:30 to speak with the Doctor. All went well and he thought we would hear from recovery to come back probably around 9am. Hah! We finally got the call to come back just before 11:00am. Ugh-I started asking to make sure around 10am...apparently he just took a really long time to wake up.

Here are two pictures from when I first got to see him in recovery-he seemed alert, but not moving and no real smiles or facial expressions.

This picture is also from recovery, he was just looking very unhappy and very sleepy! I think he is thinking, "Why did you do this to me, Mommy?"

***WARNING*** The last picture shows the incision from a distance. If you are not interested, don't keep reading! It is about 1.5 inches long- a lot longer than we expected!

We are home now and doing well. He is sleeping most of the day away. I actually woke him up earlier because I really thought he should probably eat-he did and is sound asleep again. Hopefully the recovery goes by quickly and he is not in a terrible amount of discomfort!
